A clear impassioned voice tells a story that’s only Anne Trinkl. She plays her voice as an instrument, improvises delicate scat when words can't express. You see musicians tune in with her and take you together to a new place.
Hear Anne sing, see her perform. It gets into you. “I sing because it’s what I love to do. It’s food for the soul”, she says.
Anne does not limit herself in genre. She prefers chord charts to sheet music to make songs her own. "Jazz finds it’s way in a lot of my interpretation, yet I enjoy contemporary pop too where I get tuned into lyrics."
Anne grew up in Overland Park playing piano as soon as she could reach the keys on her tip toes. She started lessons in kindergarten. Through high school, Anne studied classical piano, played flute and electric bass in high school jazz band.
Anne credits vocalist, Paula McLaughlin, for her ever singing in public. She accompanied Paula at church when Paula asked Anne to join City Limit Band to play keys. It was then Paula persuaded Anne to share her voice. Introduced to jazz by Joe Miquelon, Anne is influenced by Kelley Hunt, Sarah Vaughan, and Nora Jones. Anne began pursuing her own voice with the Steve Gray Trio and Joe Athon Band.
"Living near Kansas City, a mainstay of Jazz performance, it's amazing to perform with music legends." Everette Devan's Jam at the Phoenix among other classic venues is where you may find Anne making music. “When I was asked in March to sing on the Blue Room stage in a tribute of women in Jazz, that was astounding.”
Anne’s home in Olathe is filled with song. Besides her sound is the music of teenagers. "Adam Lambert's always on in the living room and bass guitar or drums emanate from my musician son's room downstairs."
See Anne perform at Café Augusta in Lenexa with the Bistro Blend and in duo with Everette Devan. Anne also performs solo and as guest vocalist for the Abel Ramirez Big Band and with other great musicians. You may have seen her at Cascone’s North with Chris Hazelton and Michael Stephenson, Chaz at the Raphael with guitarist Rob Whitsitt, or with the Olathe Civic Jazz Band during the Hidden Glen Art Festival.
